Word of the Week
Since 2011, readers have been enjoying my “Word of the Week” posts, which look not just at the definition of a word, but at its history and etymology. These quick little peeks into words we use every day (or…don’t), are a fun way to learn something new in just a minute or two! Word Nerds, unite!
Word of the Week – -spire Words
Let’s take a look at the words that have -spire (breath) in them
Word of the Week – Muscle
Well I didn’t guess this one. “Muscle” is from “mouse”? Say whaaaaat?
Word of the Week – Green
Believe it or not, the “once more” definition of “again” was not part of it’s original meaning!

Thoughtful Thursdays
Though a novelist by trade, one of the trademarks of my books is the spiritual depth and exploration I includes as my characters work through what it really means to walk out their faith. Faith, in fact, is one of the things I like to ponder most. In these once-a-week articles, I gets thoughtful at the crossroads of faith, family, and fiction.
Let Your Peace Return to You
I never understood “your peace will come back to you” when we shake off the dust…but this recently hit me.
What If We…?
What if instead of reviling the other side, we did this instead?
Who Do We Hurt?
We must see to the care of those around us, yes…but not at the expense of others.

History’s Story
Nearly all of my books are historicals, which means I do A LOT of research. Check out History’s Story for this novelist’s take on some of the historical tidbits I’ve learned through my research, especially on topics that end up in my novels.

Cancer Journey
In April of 2024, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As I underwent chemo, a bilateral mastectomy, radiation, and protein-blocker injections, I kept writing…books, but also blogs that shared my journey. Some are factual. Most are reflections of how God held me through it. So often I heard “thank you being vulnerable” and “you’re an inspiration.” My only goal was to share so that others can borrow the strength and faith I had to borrow from those who came before me. So if that’s you, if you need that hand held out right now, whatever you’re facing…here are my reflections.
Chemo Is DONE!
When we let Jesus take full possession of our heart, He does amazing things.
42 Things
Today I turn 42! So here are 42 things that have proven important to me in the last year.
Happy Endings
I love stories with happy endings…but sometimes I need the stories with rocky middles too.
