Word of the Week – Wife
Since last week we looked at the origins of husband, obviously this week we need to look at where the word wife comes from! Wife, originally spelled wif  or wyf, is from Old English and meant "woman." By late Old English it had carried the idea of "married woman," but...
Grappling
I don't know about you, but I have a hard time grappling with facts I don't like. Sometimes they're medical. Sometimes they're scientific. Sometimes they're political. Or dealing with a particular policy. Sometimes it's my own kids. Sometimes it's my own heart. I...
Word of the Week – Husband
The word husband has been in English since, well, the days of Old English. That's not exactly surprising. But even in words this old and common, there's still something to be learned when we look at the roots! Our modern English word comes from the Old English...
Canceled
Let's talk about Helen Keller. You've probably heard of her. As a child, a fever left her both blind and deaf and yet she went on to become famous for being an author and activist for those with disabilities. I imagine you, like me, have heard her story and have stood...

Thoughtful Thursdays

Though a novelist by trade, one of the trademarks of my books is the spiritual depth and exploration I includes as my characters work through what it really means to walk out their faith. Faith, in fact, is one of the things I like to ponder most. In these once-a-week articles, I gets thoughtful at the crossroads of faith, family, and fiction.

Cancer Journey

In April of 2024, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As I underwent chemo, a bilateral mastectomy, radiation, and protein-blocker injections, I kept writing…books, but also blogs that shared my journey. Some are factual. Most are reflections of how God held me through it. So often I heard “thank you being vulnerable” and “you’re an inspiration.” My only goal was to share so that others can borrow the strength and faith I had to borrow from those who came before me. So if that’s you, if you need that hand held out right now, whatever you’re facing…here are my reflections.
