Word of the Week – Carnation
Ready to continue our series on flowers? Today, we're going to look at the word carnation. The word dates from around 1530s, though etymologists aren't entirely sure where it came from. Their best guesses are that it's a variant of coronation, either because the...
43 in Review and now 44
For the past quite-a-few years, when my birthday rolls around, I do a "However-Many Things" post—with the number matching the year I'm about to turn. This year, while I have enough "things" in mind that I could no doubt make that list, I didn’t really want to break...
Word of the Week – Marigold
Ready to continue our series on flowers? Today, we're going to look at the word marigold. The word itself is very literal: it's Mary's Gold. The Mary, not surprisingly, is the Virgin Mary, and the flower in question to which it was applied was not what we Americans...
Announcing My Next WW2 Books!
With my final book from my first contract with Tyndale turned in, it was time to pitch some new ideas to them...and I'm thrilled to announce that I've just signed a contract for three more World War II novels, plus a Christmas novella! We're still a long way out from...

Thoughtful Thursdays

Though a novelist by trade, one of the trademarks of my books is the spiritual depth and exploration I include as my characters work through what it really means to walk out their faith. Faith, in fact, is one of the things I like to ponder most. In these once-a-week articles, I get thoughtful at the crossroads of faith, family, and fiction.

History’s Story

Nearly all of my books are historicals, which means I do A LOT of research. Check out History’s Story for this novelist’s take on some of the historical tidbits I’ve learned through my research, especially on topics that end up in my novels.

Books, Books, Books!

It goes without saying that with a novelist, it always comes down to BOOKS. These posts are your go-to for book news, cover reveals, book releases, Scavenger Hunts, giveaways, and bookish merch!

Cancer Journey

In April of 2024, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As I underwent chemo, a bilateral mastectomy, radiation, and protein-blocker injections, I kept writing…books, but also blogs that shared my journey. Some are factual. Most are reflections of how God held me through it. So often I heard “thank you being vulnerable” and “you’re an inspiration.” My only goal was to share so that others can borrow the strength and faith I had to borrow from those who came before me. So if that’s you, if you need that hand held out right now, whatever you’re facing…here are my reflections.
