About . . . the Book Reviewer

    The summer after we graduated from college, David and I were sitting in a restaurant one afternoon talking about a book I'd just read.  "It was good," I told him.  "But it was just mistaken in so many places.  It presented all these interesting facts, but it neglected some other very vital facts.  He was judging Christianity, but he completely neglected huge chunks of Christian history."

    We tried to look up sites that would have reviews on this book from a Christian perspective. . . and came up blank.  So, the Christian Review of Books was born (www.ChristianReviewofBooks.com).  There are many more Christian review sites out there now, but we were not only one of the first, we're also one of the only that will review mainstream books from a Christian perspective as well as books intended for Christian audiences.

    Since our inception, we've grown exponentially.  We have a whole list of reviewers who send us content, and we receive books from all the major Christian publishers, several independent publicists, and many authors.

    Personally, I've had a blast as a reviewer, especially when my reviews started to appear as endorsements.  These days when I do a Google search on my name, I find dozens of pages where authors, publishers, and booksellers have posted my reviews online.  I've even appeared in books!  My endorsement of Trish Perry's The Guy I'm Not Dating appeared in its sequel, Too Good to be True (both fabulous books, by the way), and I've been on the cover of a few smaller-press books.  My words are often quoted in press material put out the by the publishers, too, which is so exciting for me!

    At the CRoB I've also started a column, "Between the Lines," where I expand my role of reviewer into commentator and interviewer.  It's been a lot of fun, and I've gotten great feedback from readers.  Be sure and check it out!
