About . . . Roseanna the Writer

I've been writing since I was. . . oh. . . six?  Pretty much since I could write.  I still have many of my stories I composed as a child, which never fail to make me laugh when I reread them.

I wrote my first novel at the ripe old age of 13.  I recently rewrote it for the umpteenth time, changing everything from its title to most of its characters' names.  Originally Golden Sunset, Silver Tear, this novel is now called Fire Eyes.  Info can be found on it below.

In highschool, David and I wrote a book together called Shadow of Turning, a political fiction in need of a rewrite.  It's got a great foundation, so one of these days I'll break it back out and whip it into shape.  We also then started a trilogy of short stories we self-published, called In a Mind's Eye.  You can find it on Amazon.  It was my one foray into sci-fi, and while it was fun, it'll probably be my last foray into, too.  My heart lies in other genres.

College is when I wrote the bulk of my work.  Writing was my way of relaxing from the stress of the day.  During those four years I completed nine novels, most of them intended for a Christian audience.  Since graduating I've added more to the list, though my writing has been not as steady since my children came along.

I'm a member of a fantastic writer's association called American Christian Fiction Writers, or ACFW for short.  Check our their website at www.acfw.com.  Through ACFW I have grown so much in my craft, made some great friends, and found a connection with other writers that encourages and much as it teaches.  Any aspiring writers out there need to hook up with a group like this!

Current Pitches:

My agent and I are currently focused on selling a historical romance trilogy set in Victorian England.

Fire Eyes

Raised as a Grimaldi in Monaco, Brook never expects to learn she is actually an English baroness.   But when the truth of her past closes around her as surely as the necklace that proves her identity, she finds herself on a ship sailing forever away from the Mediterranean.  Her best friend Justin accompanies her, and she knows her faith will see her through.  But one question keeps plaguing her: what drove her parents to their deaths when she was only a week old?

As a new duke, Justin has worries enough without needing to add to it his growing feelings for Brook.  He hopes some distance will restore the balance to their relationship. Instead he returns from a prolonged business trip to find a woman bound to enchant London, a woman who seems to be hiding mysteries she won’t share with him.  She’s garnered the attention of more than suitors, and the danger she’s invited with her questions about her parents swoops down on them before he has a chance to claim her as his own.

Wind Aflame

After the attack, Gusty wants nothing to do with men—not even the attractive Brice, Duke of Sussex, who shows her more kindness than any she has ever met.  She knows what he does not: that she is damaged, broken, completely unsuitable for him, even if she is a marquess’s daughter.  But when she and Brice are caught in a cunning trap, her future is decided for her.

Brice can’t explain why the meek Gusty has stolen his heart, but he wants to see what the Lord has in store for them.  Unfortunately, the demons from her past join forces with the villains still haunting his friends to cause them trouble.  It’s difficult enough to fight for her heart and convince her to trust him and the Lord—now they have to fight for their lives as well.

Diamond Blaze

James Berkeley, Earl of Kent, is still feeling the consequences of his dark past.  He is a new man now, but the villains he once called friends don’t understand that.  They think to use him against his cousin in the search for two red diamonds, and Kent is willing to play along if it means finding justice.  But his plans of a double-cross are complicated when Lady Ella Myerston comes on the scene with her abundant smiles—smiles that were haunting him before he even realized who she was.

Ella has long been looking for a man to love—she just didn’t expect to find him in a brooding widower with a small daughter.  Still, Kent is everything her heart could want.  With his past dogging their every step, she knows he’s right about the danger they’re all in.  She is determined to love him, no matter what. . . she just hadn’t anticipated what that might cost her.

I also recently sent her the first in a new series set in 1922 Chicago.

Mafia Princess

Sabina Mancari grew up with a mob boss for a father. She'd never questioned his decisions, his world, or where she fit inside it--not until an undercover Prohibition Agent breaks her heart. Suddenly she sees things in stark clarity, and the picture leaves her empty inside. All her life she's been defined by her father. When she strips that away, who's left?

Lorenzo Capecce may have been the godson of one of Chicago's biggest Mafia bosses, but he wants nothing to do with a life of crime. After law school, he's determined to marry Sabina and steer clear of their families' business. But when the Prohibition Agent who'd been using Sabina keeps coming after her father, he can't just step away. His faith says he shouldn't be involved--but how can he abandon his family? And Sabina says she wants another chance with him--but should he trust her with his heart?

The Gangster's Girl (In Progress)

Cecily Hill is trying to put her past behind her. Of course, that would be a lot easier if everyone would quit reminding her of it. She came to Chicago in shame eighteen months earlier and immediately got mixed up in the wrong crowd. But she's paid the price, and now she's free of the Mafia's grip--and determined to stay that way. If only the charming Tony Capecce would take the hint and steer clear. The last thing she needs is to get involved with a gangster who's a rival of the one she'd been tied to before. But her stupid heart just won't listen to her head where he's concerned.

Tony's ready to step up, to take over operations for his godfather and father when they retire. It's what he wants--and he's not going to listen to his little brother or his conscience when they try to tell him otherwise. But when a rival gang keeps trying to put a bullet in his head, he decides it might be time to leave Chicago for a while. His sister-in-law's friend Cecily needs someone to travel to Maryland with her, so he tags along. He has no intention of giving her anything more than a passing interest. Just like he has no intention of giving up the Mafia. So why does he begin to question where his heart lies?

New Project

I'm in the research stages of a new historical series.  The first novel, Revealer of Secrets (working title), will be a Victorian era Daniel story set in India and England of 1885.  Alethea Dans is thrust from her native India and all its dark undercurrents into the fashionable world of Spiritualism in England.  Her peers seem to think tea-party seances are nothing but a diversion. . . but having seen the dark powers at work in the world, this young lady knows the dangers of opening doors to the spiritual realm.  But when the Spirit moves within her, will her guardians accept the truth from her lips?

I also have a contemporary women's fiction trilogy that I'm still tweaking.  It includes:

Unrequested, Unrequited

Louisa loved Rem when she was sixteen and he left her pregnant.  She loves him still at twenty-five when he comes back engaged.  But how long can she keep on loving him selflessly--without losing herself in the process?

When the Sun Shines In

Garret Wynnwood finally has to acknowledge that the girl he'd loved all his life was never meant for him.  And just in time, too.  When Celeste Thatcher moves home again, broken and in need of love without judgment, he sees a new future ahead of him.  If only Celeste were ready for love.

Untitled Third Novel

Jenna Mitchell moved to Oregon when her fiance chose another woman, hoping to find a new love on a new coast.  Instead, she finds an obsessed stranger who threatens her life. . . and a love in the aftermath that she suddenly isn't sure she's ready for.

Other Works

In case anyone's interested, here's a complete list of my finished novels, with short descriptions.  Purely for the sake of it;-)

Golden Sunset, Silver Tear

Now Fire Eyes

Shadow of Turning

Mao Britainy Xia is the granddaughter of the rulers of the world.  Not that anyone knows that--and not that anyone should.  Which is why she leaves her home in Hong Kong to go to America when a nosy Princeton professor starts snooping where he shouldn't.  Warren Conner is dangerously close to uncovering secrets whose existence he shouldn't even know about--which makes him perfect for Xia, who wants nothing more than to unravel the hidden empire that shouldn't exist either.

In a Mind's Eye (short story trilogy)

The Belanu family was comprised of mind readers, three of whom shaped the world, the universe, and history. The Gifted child, Shyanne, unraveled a plot to kill the Keeper orchestrated by the Selector. Govian, Shyanne's grandson, recovered the solution for problems plaguing the Eleven Worlds from the mind of the dying Leader. After his death another dilemma arose when his predecessor decided a clone of Shyanne should be the next Leader. Govian's son, Quronius, giftless but with full use of his brain, set out to comprehend the mysteries of time and what made his family unique.

Behind Closed Eyes
Carolina Adams is the secret weapon of the NSA.  She has a heart for the Lord but a mind for intuitive leaps that lets her solve problems before most people know they exist--and cover up the past she wanted no one to know about.  But now two men come into her life that threaten both her heart and her world.  Grant Jackson from her past, and Ian Jacobs from the FBI.  She doesn't know whether she can love either of them. . . because she isn't quite sure who she is when she closes her eyes on the world

Silhouettes (mainstream)
Cadence Fynn was America's favorite novelist--but when her far-fetched novels start coming true, it becomes a nightmare instead of dream.  She isn't surprised when the FBI shows up at her door.  But she is surprised when she realizes that the agent assigned to her case is none other than Luke Mullino, her highschool rival whom she did not love all through her young adulthood.  Suddenly Cadence doesn't know how to keep story and reality separate. . . because the man she once turned into a young woman's hero in her first novel is rising to the occasion in real life.

To Dance with Lightning (mainstream)
Elisa Stanton was never quite an artist until one tempest-tossed night when lightning got into her blood.  And now she can't seem to get the electricity out again.  She finds herself shunning the life she thought she wanted in favor of gallivanting off to Italy.  But teaching at the Buonarotti Institute of Art isn't the tame experience it should be--or rather, it's owner isn't.  Giovanni Buonarotti sets his sights on her from the moment they meet.  And before she can blink, she's caught up in a whirlwind of crime, fame, and lightning love.

Impossibilities (mainstream)

Alexis Neiman never wanted to see a Faraday again, not after the way things ended between her and Michael.  But see one she does--not the weak young man she had dumped, but his too-strong father, Jonathan.  She doesn't know how to deal with the attraction that springs up.  And she doesn't know how to refuse the offer he makes.  But she knows anything he might give her is only temporary--love is impossible for both of them.  Right?

Music in His Hand
Morgan Franklin is best described as unobtrusive.  She may be a world-renowned violinist, but no one ever remembers her face, just her music.  Not even Ethan Graham, pianist--he was more interested in her sister, at least until Elizabeth literally left him out in the rain and Morgan comes to his rescue.  They find a love neither really expected, but can a man who thrived on the glamour of his career ever be happy with a quiet girl who'd rather compose than perform?

The Stars and the Sands
Allie Jones has always wanted to be an archeologist, and getting an internship on the Court dig, along with her twin brother Stone, is a blessing.  Most people think Zach Court is looking for Atlantis--but as she comes to know and love the charming head of the expedition, she realizes he doesn't know what he's looking for.  But will he recognize the need to look for faith before their paths part forever?

A Stray Drop of Blood
Published with WFP.  Info on other pages.

Unrequested, Unrequited
    Info above.

Darkest Devotion (crossover)
Carmen Kennedy had been carefully shaped into the ultimate femme fatal.  She tries to escape the world Nick Hayes created for her once, but she ended up going back to him.  She didn't know who she was, except who he made her.  But the deeper they move into the black-market world of riches and intrigue, the more Carmen realizes she needs something else. . . something more.  She just isn't sure it's something she can find in this world of her.  Or something she'd deserve even if she could.
